FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

NodeVyu monitoring FAQ

Answers to common questions about NodeVyu camera, NVR, RTSP, network, topology, DHCP-aware device tracking, remote site and synthetic monitoring.

Does NodeVyu monitor cameras directly?

Yes. NodeVyu can monitor supported IP cameras directly with checks such as ping, TCP, HTTP/HTTPS, RTSP and ONVIF, depending on the device configuration.

Can NodeVyu monitor cameras through an NVR?

Yes. NodeVyu can monitor an NVR as a device and separately validate configured camera channels through that recorder using RTSP stream templates.

Can a direct camera and its NVR stream be associated?

Yes. A direct camera can be associated with the matching NVR camera stream so operators can recognize that both monitoring paths represent the same physical camera.

What RTSP brands are supported?

NodeVyu includes templates for common recorder and camera families such as Reolink, Lorex/Dahua-compatible, Hikvision-compatible and others. A custom RTSP endpoint can be used when a specific model differs.

Can I use a custom RTSP URL?

Yes. Vendor templates provide a starting point, and individual NVR configurations can override the endpoint when a model or firmware requires a different path.

Do cameras need to be exposed to the internet?

No. The NodeVyu Agent runs inside the monitored network and can perform checks against private LAN addresses, avoiding the need to expose every camera or network device publicly.

Can NodeVyu monitor switches, routers and access points?

Yes. Network devices can be monitored with reachability and service checks such as ping, TCP, HTTP and HTTPS.

Can NodeVyu build a network topology map?

Yes. Each site can have a topology workspace containing monitored devices and manually added infrastructure such as unmanaged switches, patch panels and wireless bridges. Operators can arrange nodes, zoom and pan the map, and create links by dragging the connector handle from one node to another.

How does NodeVyu handle DHCP address changes?

For devices configured for DHCP tracking, NodeVyu can use the discovered MAC address as the stable identity. If the same MAC appears at a new IP address, NodeVyu can reconcile the address change and surface it for validation. An unexpected MAC at an existing address is treated as a separate identity change rather than being silently trusted.

What does the NodeVyu Agent monitor on Windows?

The agent can report host health including CPU, memory, disk usage and selected Windows service status while also performing local device, stream and synthetic checks.

How are outages handled?

NodeVyu records monitoring failures and recoveries, tracks incident duration and can send configured notifications when monitored services go down or recover.

Does NodeVyu store camera samples?

For configured RTSP monitoring, NodeVyu can store a recent representative frame so an operator can visually confirm what the monitored stream returned.

What warranty is included with a camera system installation?

Camera system installations include a 1-year limited warranty beginning on the installation date. The warranty covers installed cameras, the NVR, installed camera cabling and connectors, installation-related defects, and hardware failures occurring during normal use. It does not cover vandalism, theft, intentional or accidental physical damage, construction or third-party damage, power surges, lightning, flooding, fire, severe weather, environmental damage, rodents or pests, or equipment that has been moved, modified, rewired, disconnected or serviced by another party. Customer-provided networking equipment, internet service and electrical service are not covered unless specifically included with the installation. Recording retention is not guaranteed, and remote or mobile viewing depends on the customer's internet connection, network configuration and applicable third-party services. Warranty service applies to the original installed location and covered equipment.
